Intimate Weddings & Elopements — Millar Cole Photography

You’ve found your photographer. Or at least, you’ve got a feeling. You’ve scrolled through the galleries, maybe saved a few images, and something about the way these photos look and feel just clicked.

That feeling matters. It’s the same instinct that told you this was the person, this was the place, this was the day. And if you’re here reading this, I’d love to tell you a bit more about how I work, what it’s like having me around on your wedding day, and how we might be a good fit.

Editorial bridal portrait

I’m a modern, editorial wedding and elopement photographer who’s spent the last 17 years creating images for real people in extraordinary settings. Grand celebrations, intimate elopements, mountaintop ceremonies or city escapes — I’m here for it all.

My background’s a bit of everything really — fashion campaigns, film stills, documentary work. It’s probably why I see weddings differently. They’re this beautiful collision of candid emotion, editorial beauty and technical precision all happening in one mad, brilliant day.

I like to keep things relaxed and friendly — none of that stiff photographer-client nonsense. Plus after all these weddings, I know who’s good and what works. I’m here for planning advice, supplier recommendations (I’ve worked with the best in the business), and making sure your day flows brilliantly. Most importantly, I’m here for you, so pick my brain all you want.

I’m based in Glasgow, Scotland with my partner Emma (set designer extraordinaire — she did SIX!), our wee one Erin, who’s the real director of proceedings, and our cat Batman.

Atmospheric venue scene

I’m not going to make you hold those stiff, unnatural poses where you stare into each other’s eyes while I count to three. Not my style.

The best photos happen when you forget I’m there. When you’re just being yourselves — whether that’s full-on PDA or barely touching because physical affection makes you both go a bit funny.

I’ll guide you towards nice light and give gentle direction when needed, but this isn’t about manufactured moments or awkward hand placement — it’s about capturing you two as you actually are together. Whatever your vibe is, that’s what we’re after.

No stress, no pressure, no pretending to be something you’re not. Just you two, doing your thing, while I capture the good bits.

Intimate film photograph

I don’t often quote Italian philosophers (!), but there’s a tension at the heart of what I do, and Italo Calvino identified it perfectly in his book Difficult Loves — that the line between reality photographed because it’s beautiful, and reality that seems beautiful because it’s been photographed, is vanishingly thin. He saw how easily the camera tips from witness to director — how the pursuit of the perfect candid moment can hollow out the very thing it’s trying to preserve.

I think about that a lot. Because my job is to be present without imposing. To see your day clearly, not to shape it into something it isn’t.

Three ways to work together

These are starting points, not rigid boxes. Every intimate wedding and elopement is different, and I’m always happy to put together something that fits your plans.

Your wedding, in print

A gallery on a screen is wonderful. But there’s something different about holding it in your hands.

I work with a fine art bookmaker to produce books that feel more like something you’d find in a design studio than a traditional wedding album. Linen or leather covers, transparent plexi cases or premium slipcase boxes, editorial layouts designed by me from your gallery.

  • 25 × 32 cm (portrait)£675
  • 20 × 26 cm (portrait)£550

Both include 90 spreads / 180 pages. £100 off when ordered with your collection at booking. Albums can be added to any collection — just ask and I’ll walk you through the options.

Portrait / Engagement Shoot

  • Up to 2 hours£850

A chance to get comfortable in front of the camera before the day itself. High-resolution, retouched photos ready as digital download 2–4 weeks later. Scotland travel included. UK travel costs may apply.

Film Photography

  • Portra 400 / Ilford HP5 (36 exposures)£150 per roll

Every package includes one roll. Film handles skin tones and natural light in a way that digital doesn’t quite match — there’s a softness and warmth to it that makes everything feel a bit more like a memory. If you love the look and want more, just say.

Things you might want to know

I'm based in Glasgow, but I work all over Scotland and beyond. Travel within 100 miles of Glasgow is included in all packages. For weddings further afield — elsewhere in the UK or abroad — I quote travel individually based on your location. I've shot weddings everywhere from the Outer Hebrides to the Italian lakes, and I genuinely love an excuse to explore somewhere new.

Absolutely. I've photographed elopements and intimate weddings across Europe and further afield, and it's some of my favourite work. If you're planning something in Iceland, the Scottish Highlands, Italy, France, or anywhere else, get in touch. We'll figure out travel costs together, but the short answer is: yes, I'd love to come with you.

Not at all. Some of my favourite weddings have been the smallest ones. Whether it's just the two of you or a handful of your favourite people, I bring the same care, attention, and editorial eye. Your day matters just as much, and honestly, smaller celebrations often give us more freedom to make really beautiful, unhurried photographs.

I promise it won't be. Most of my couples say exactly this at the start, and by the end of the day they've forgotten I'm even there. I work quietly and unobtrusively, and I'm not going to bark instructions or make you pose awkwardly. For portraits, I'll give you gentle prompts and let real moments happen naturally. You'll feel like you're just spending time together, not being photographed.

Then we embrace it. I've been shooting weddings in Scotland for seventeen years — I know how to work with rain, mist, flat light, and every variation of grey sky you can imagine. Some of my favourite images have been made in terrible weather. We'll still get beautiful photographs, I promise. Just bring a nice umbrella.

It starts with a chat — usually a quick video call so we can meet properly, talk through your plans, and see if we’re the right fit. If we both feel good about it, I’ll send a contract and invoice for the booking fee (£500) to secure your date. From there, we start planning together. Simple as that.

Yes, subject to availability. If you think you might want a bit more time, we can discuss it beforehand and build it into your package. And if the day's going beautifully and you want me to stay longer, we can usually figure that out on the day too — just let me know early enough and we'll make it work.

You'll get a private online gallery where you can view, download, and share all your images. The gallery stays live for a year, with an option to extend, and you'll have full download access to high-resolution files as well as web-ready versions. I'll also send you a personalised highlight slideshow set to music of your choice, which makes a lovely keepsake (and is great for showing your parents who don't do computers).

You'll get a preview selection within a few days of the wedding — just a handful of favourites to tide you over. The full gallery is delivered around 5–6 weeks after your wedding day. I know that feels like a long time when you're excited, but I hand-edit every single image individually, and I'd rather take the time to get them right than rush them out.

“From the first call we had with Ben to discuss our wedding, we could tell he was the right photographer for us. His style of photography has a nostalgic beauty to it that we particularly love. Ben’s calm demeanour and considered decision making left us knowing we were in great hands. The narrative of the entire day is held within these photos — we couldn’t have ever imagined the atmosphere and spirit of the day could be so poignantly captured.”

Beth & Dave

“If you’re looking for a photographer, just hire Ben. Honestly, trust the guy 1000%. Give him the freedom to do his thing and I promise you won’t regret it. My wife won’t admit it, but I was the one who wanted Ben from the start after seeing his work. His photos just felt real to me. Seeing my wife’s face light up every time she looks at the gallery has been one of the best parts for me. The photos are unreal. We’re working with Ben on a photo book now, and we can’t even pick favorites because there are too many good ones. Ben’s got real talent and a good heart. We couldn’t have asked for better.”

Alex & Lo

“You caught the essence of every moment; the chaos and the calm, the wild and the delicate, but mostly you perfectly captured the mystical quality of that place, the magic of what happened there; and the spirit of the journey we wanted to create and share… The narrative of the entire day is held within these photos, we couldn’t have ever imagined the atmosphere and spirit of the day could be so poignantly captured in such a wide variety of photos.”

Let’s talk

If something here resonated — if you looked at these photos and thought yes, that’s what I want our day to feel like — then I’d love to hear from you.

The next step is easy: a quick, relaxed video call. No hard sell, no pressure. Just a chance to meet, hear about your plans, and see whether one of these intimate wedding or elopement collections feels right, or whether we should shape something around your day.

Or drop me a message at millarcolestudio@gmail.com — I’m always happy to chat that way too.

I take on a limited number of weddings and elopements each year, so if you’ve got your date in mind, it’s worth getting in touch sooner rather than later — especially for summer weekends and good Scottish light.
