Editorial bridal portrait

I'm an editorial wedding and elopement photographer with 17 years of experience — grand celebrations, intimate elopements, mountaintop ceremonies, city escapes — I’m here for it all.

My background spans fashion campaigns, film stills, and documentary work. It's probably why I see weddings differently — they're a collision of candid emotion, editorial beauty, and technical precision all happening in one mad, brilliant day.

Nearly 400 weddings in, I know who's good and what works. Happy to share planning advice, supplier recommendations, and anything else that helps your day run smoothly.

I’m based in Glasgow, Scotland with my partner Emma (set designer extraordinaire — she did SIX!), our wee one Erin, who’s the real director of proceedings, and our cat Batman.

Atmospheric venue scene

I’m not going to make you hold those stiff, unnatural poses where you stare into each other’s eyes while I count to three. Not my style.

The best photos happen when you forget I’m there. When you’re just being yourselves — whether that’s full-on PDA or barely touching because physical affection makes you both go a bit funny.

I’ll guide you towards the right light and give gentle direction when needed, but this isn’t about manufactured moments or awkward hand placement — it’s about capturing you two as you actually are together. However you are together, that’s what I'm after.

No stress, no pressure, no pretending to be something you’re not. Just you two, doing your thing, while I capture the good bits.

Intimate film photograph

I don’t often quote Italian philosophers, but there’s a tension at the heart of what I do, and Italo Calvino identified it perfectly in his book Difficult Loves — that the line between reality photographed because it’s beautiful, and reality that seems beautiful because it’s been photographed, is vanishingly thin. He saw how easily the camera tips from witness to director — how the pursuit of the perfect candid moment can hollow out the very thing it’s trying to preserve.

I think about that a lot. Because my job is to be present without imposing. To see your day clearly, not to shape it into something it isn’t.

Three ways to work together

These are starting points, not rigid boxes. Every wedding is different, and I’m always happy to put together something that fits your day.

Your wedding, in print

A gallery on a screen is wonderful. But there’s something different about holding it in your hands.

I work with a fine art bookmaker to produce books that feel more like something you’d find in a design studio than a traditional wedding album. Linen or leather covers, transparent plexi cases or premium slipcase boxes, editorial layouts designed by me from your gallery.

  • 25 × 32 cm (portrait)£675
  • 20 × 26 cm (portrait)£550

Both include 90 spreads / 180 pages. £100 off when ordered with your collection at booking. Albums can be added to any collection — just ask and I’ll walk you through the options.

Things you might want to know

You’ll get a preview selection within the first week or so — enough to keep the post-wedding high going and share a few favourites with family. Your full gallery (every image, individually edited) will be ready around five to six weeks after the wedding.

Most weddings only need one photographer, but there are definitely times where a second photographer comes in useful — for example, if I’m shooting a large wedding with over 200 people, it’s useful to have another camera on site. Much as I’d like to be, it’s hard to be in two places at once! I have a few very talented second shooters who I trust.

I live in Scotland most of the year and I shoot weddings across the UK and internationally — from the Highlands to the south of France, from London to the Alps. My passport has been around the world and I’m always keen to travel to new destinations.

Then we work with it. Some of my favourite images have been shot in Scottish rain, mist, and moody skies. I know how to find light in any conditions, and honestly, overcast skies produce gorgeous, soft portraits. I’ll always have a plan B for where to shoot, and I’ll never let weather ruin your day.

Not even a little bit. Most of my couples say this. You don’t need to be photogenic or comfortable in front of a camera — that’s my job to handle. I’ll give you enough direction that you don’t feel lost, but not so much that it feels unnatural. By the time we’ve been together for twenty minutes, most couples forget I’m even there. That’s when the best shots happen.

I’ll send you a link to your own private online gallery that you can share with friends and family. You can order prints directly from the gallery too.

It starts with a chat — usually a twenty-minute video call so we can meet properly, talk through your plans, and see if we’re the right fit. If we both feel good about it, I’ll send a contract and invoice for the booking fee (£750) to secure your date. From there, we start planning together. Simple as that.

“From the first call we had with Ben to discuss our wedding, we could tell he was the right photographer for us. His style of photography has a nostalgic beauty to it that we particularly love. Ben’s calm demeanour and considered decision making left us knowing we were in great hands. The narrative of the entire day is held within these photos — we couldn’t have ever imagined the atmosphere and spirit of the day could be so poignantly captured.”

Beth & Dave

“If you’re looking for a photographer, just hire Ben. Honestly, trust the guy 1000%. Give him the freedom to do his thing and I promise you won’t regret it. My wife won’t admit it, but I was the one who wanted Ben from the start after seeing his work. His photos just felt real to me. Seeing my wife’s face light up every time she looks at the gallery has been one of the best parts for me. The photos are unreal. We’re working with Ben on a photo book now, and we can’t even pick favorites because there are too many good ones. Ben’s got real talent and a good heart. We couldn’t have asked for better.”

Alex & Lo

“You caught the essence of every moment; the chaos and the calm, the wild and the delicate, but mostly you perfectly captured the mystical quality of that place, the magic of what happened there; and the spirit of the journey we wanted to create and share. That’s what you and your work really does; you bring it all back, you slow it down, and you make it last forever.”

Ann & Nick

A little while after her wedding, Ann sent me this. I think about it more than she probably realises.

Handwritten thank-you letter from Ann describing her experience of her wedding photographs

Dear Ben,

I wonder if you know what you and your work really does?

It came as a big surprise to me that, despite being cynically convinced that a wedding is essentially just a big party, we found ourselves pouring our hearts and souls into the planning and execution of the day. We wanted it to capture us, who we are, how we love to live and what makes us feel alive and to create a journey for the ones we love; to travel through us, if only for a day, and in doing so, share this important milestone with us.

Turns out that's a tall order. So perhaps because of that lofty brief or perhaps just because I was a bride, I lived our wedding day on a bit of an alternate plane. It felt like I floated through the day in a state of overwhelming joy and incredible disbelief at the same time. A mixture, I assume, of having our entire worlds together in one place, hoping it all goes as planned and trying to live it to the fullest….but try as I might it escaped me - flying by in a flash of colour and laughter and rain; over as soon as it began.

I have no illusions of being the only bride to experience this perceived acceleration of time. I have been told it's very common. But that doesn't lessen the desire to remember every moment, every feeling, every drop of rain in perfect detail. If for no other reason than to live in those moments for a little longer.

Then we got your photographs …. and just like that, I was transported back to that beautiful day.

You caught the essence of every moment; the chaos and the calm, the wild and the delicate, but mostly you perfectly captured the mystical quality of that place, the magic of what happened there; and the spirit of the journey we wanted to create and share.

That's what you and your work really does; you bring it all back, you slow it down, and you make it last forever.

I am eternally grateful. Thank you ….

lots of love,
Ann

Let’s talk

If something here resonated — if you looked at these photos and thought yes, that’s what I want our day to feel like — then I’d love to hear from you.

The next step is easy: a short video call. No hard sell, no pressure. Just a chance to meet, hear about your plans, and see if we’re the right fit for each other.

Or drop me a message at millarcolestudio@gmail.com — I’m always happy to chat that way too.

I take on around 20 weddings a year, so if you’ve got your date in mind, it’s worth getting in touch sooner rather than later — popular dates do book up, sometimes over a year ahead.
