Dear Ben,
I wonder if you know what you and your work really does?
It came as a big surprise to me that, despite being cynically convinced that a wedding is essentially just a big party, we found ourselves pouring our hearts and souls into the planning and execution of the day. We wanted it to capture us, who we are, how we love to live and what makes us feel alive and to create a journey for the ones we love; to travel through us, if only for a day, and in doing so, share this important milestone with us.
Turns out that's a tall order. So perhaps because of that lofty brief or perhaps just because I was a bride, I lived our wedding day on a bit of an alternate plane. It felt like I floated through the day in a state of overwhelming joy and incredible disbelief at the same time. A mixture, I assume, of having our entire worlds together in one place, hoping it all goes as planned and trying to live it to the fullest….but try as I might it escaped me - flying by in a flash of colour and laughter and rain; over as soon as it began.
I have no illusions of being the only bride to experience this perceived acceleration of time. I have been told it's very common. But that doesn't lessen the desire to remember every moment, every feeling, every drop of rain in perfect detail. If for no other reason than to live in those moments for a little longer.
Then we got your photographs …. and just like that, I was transported back to that beautiful day.
You caught the essence of every moment; the chaos and the calm, the wild and the delicate, but mostly you perfectly captured the mystical quality of that place, the magic of what happened there; and the spirit of the journey we wanted to create and share.
That's what you and your work really does; you bring it all back, you slow it down, and you make it last forever.
I am eternally grateful. Thank you ….
lots of love,
Ann
