Emma and Hugh live in London now, but they’re both from Fife, and getting married back in “the Kingdom” was always the plan. Cambo House was the obvious choice — an estate that’s been here since the 1600s, with a real sense of place and community that matched what they wanted the day to feel like.
Emma got ready in The Boudoir, all soft window light, and wore a bespoke Joana Pinto gown from The Garment Studio in Peckham. It was gorgeous — classic but modern, exactly right for her. Hugh and his ushers were in the snooker room, where someone presented him with a framed scorecard from a recent golf game he’d won, plus a comically tiny trophy. It came back to haunt him during the speeches.
The ceremony was in Cambo’s walled garden under summer sun — humanist, officiated by a close friend, which gave the whole thing an extra layer of warmth. Afterwards we had the walled garden to ourselves for portraits, which is a rare treat at a wedding. Just the three of us, no rush, beautiful light.
Drinks reception on the front lawn, then dinner in The Drawing Room — high Victorian ceilings, ornate furnishings, and this incredible central bay window that filled the room with golden evening light. Toasts, stories, plenty of laughing.
Then it was out to the Coach Yard for a ceilidh, which had absolutely everyone up, followed by a quick outfit change for Hugh — into a Casely-Hayford suit to complement the Kinloch Anderson he’d worn earlier — before an evening of disco and soul that kept going until the small hours.
A properly brilliant day from start to finish.
